| Martin Has Left the Building On Tuesday 15th April we waved goodbye to Martin Harrington as he emigrated to New Zealand with his wife Julie and children Emily & Keane. Martin joined Covents way back in August 1984 as a centre who became a scrum half. On October 18th 1986 he fumbled at the Number 8’s feet and a rare pushover try against Bedworth went begging. His penchant for kleptomania hit new heights in the 1987 Warks Cup final when he held a St. John’s Ambulance man’s cap to ransom in the local press. This selfless act secured lots of positive press for the club . . . Redeeming himself on January 2nd 1988 during the first two games ever played at Coventrians’ new ground, he scored the first ever try, touching down at the far end (of what is now the first team pitch) for the thirds against B’ham Civil Service in a 4 - 20 defeat. On March 18th 1989 he sustained a broken jaw at Earlsdon in a second team game. Contrary to popular myth, he did not take the field with a huge target painted on his face bearing the legend, “Hit me!” Having said that it wasn’t heartbreaking when said jaw was wired up for six weeks and Martin fell virtually silent. His final bow for Coventrians, sometime in the last ten years ended in glory as he was substituted for James and so brought the curtain down on a memorable career bumming around the seconds and thirds and having many a laugh down the years. The merriment continued as Martin became a Vice President (who actually paid his fees) and in recent years, a club sponsor (especially prominent on those most waterproof of training tops). So mate, we wish you well down in the “Land of the long white cloud.” Good luck, stay in touch and don’t forget to come back to your spiritual home. |

| 12/03/2008 Last league match 2007/08 Saturday 12th March 2008 Warwickians RFC 8 - 50 Coventrians RFC The first team romped to a glorious 50-8 win today (their 7th consecutively in the league) away at Warwickian. Skipper Keiran Martin lead by example by dotting down after 7mins. Further tries followed from Chris Simons 18 mins (Dougie con) 12-0; Kev Walters (returned from sin bin) 26 mins 17-0; Stuart Barr 31 mins (Dougie con) 24-0. This was a superb try that went from one side of the pitch to the other through 8 or 9 player's hands! It said a lot about how Covents have played their rugby this season. Carl Thornton 38 mins (Dougie con) for a half time score of 31-0. In the second half, Warwickian came back with a penalty and a try but further Covents scores, 54 mins Stuart Barr (Dougie Con) 38-8; 67 mins Rowan Aitken 43-8; 70 mins Kev Walters (Dougie Con) sealed a great win 50 - 8. The second team lost again to Dunlop (2 leagues higher) 12-18 with tries from evergreen birthday boy Dean Goodwin (21 today) & Dave Bailey with a Ben Davies conversion. Young Joe Swaffield spent 10 in the bin. Another good day to reflect on as we wait to see if we've finished 2nd and won a play off spot. (Mick Winterton) |

2007/8 Season
Coventrians RFC are looking at 2007/8 with a great deal of optimism. We have agreed a 3 year deal with Coventry Aquatics as our main sponsor, who will sponsor our playing kit together with our leisure wear.
Coundon Cockerels have agreed a new 5 year lease to play at our grounds on Sundays for their 3 senior soccer teams and 7/8 junior soccer teams. We will also have 2 junior soccer teams playing on Sundays as Coventrians RFC
Coundon OB FC will play on Saturdays and have brought with them 2 changing rooms which will free up more changing rooms for our rugby teams. They are also, weather permitting, upgrading the far pitch to a standard capable of accommodating Alliance premier soccer. We are looking at a long term relationship with all these teams in order to continually improve our facilities.
We have also built up a great relationship with the Ricoh and are now their prime Car Park site, with Rod Stewart parking booked in for 10 th July(please stop raining) and the Jehovahs witnesses Ricoh conference booked in for the 27 th to 29 th of July
Other major functions booked are the Brico fun day on 15 th July and the Coventry Asian games on 22 nd July, together with various junior soccer tournaments.
Rugby Training is now underway on Tuesday nights and Saturdays and once more we hope to be in the mix for a promotion slot where only the top team is guaranteed promotion and the runner up goes into a play off. With a greater commitment from the players we can achieve this goal
